Just got back from The Eagles concert which was there "History of the Eagles" show. Four people in a 16 passenger bus made for a LOT of legroom. Unfortunately the bus ride was only comfortable for the driver (ME!) because I had the best padded seat for comfort while the other three had standard school bus seats. Then again, I had to do all the driving there and back while they got to chillax! You try driving a mini-school bus down 1st Ave in Vancouver and see how you like it - not fun.
The Delta Resort and Casino in Burnaby is where we stayed and what a FANTASTIC hotel. The rooms were reasonable and the hotel (rebuilt just five years ago) is unreal. It's Vegas style and right off Highway 1 so it was only about a 30 minutes drive to Roger's Arena. It would have been less if it wasn't rush hour on a Friday night.
What can I say the old guys can still get it done! Of course, I cannot start any review that is so close to the start of the NHL season without taunting all you saps who are not Vancouver Canucks fans. I stood in the shadow of greatness - The Eagles and The Vancouver Canucks billboard!

WE ARE ALL CANUCKS! WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!
The stage was fairly basic but when your master song writers and great with melodies it really doesn't matter (sorry about the poor quality pics).
Here is very quick clip of Joe Walsh singing his hit "Rocky Mountain Way". I couldn't get more because the crabby Eagles fans in front of us didn't like the light on the video camera.
Here is the the set list that was played last night:
Saturday Night (Don Henley and Glenn Frey only)
Train Leaves Here This Morning (Bernie Leadon, Don Henley and Glenn Frey only)
Peaceful Easy Feeling (Timothy B. Schmit, Bernie … more)
Witchy Woman (Joe Walsh joins the 4 others)
Doolin-Dalton
Tequila Sunrise
Doolin'-Dalton/Desperado (Reprise)
Already Gone
The Best of My Love
Lyin' Eyes
One of These Nights
Take It to the Limit
*** ABOUT A 30 MINUTE INTERMISSION ***
Pretty Maids All in a Row (Bernie Leadon didn't play the … more)
I Can't Tell You Why
New Kid in Town
Love Will Keep Us Alive
Heartache Tonight
Those Shoes
In the City
Life's Been Good
(Joe Walsh song)
The Long Run
Funk #49 (James Gang cover)
Life in the Fast Lane
Encore 1:
Hotel California
Encore 2:
Take It Easy
Rocky Mountain Way (Joe Walsh song)
Desperado
The Eagles even paid homage to the James Gang last night in their set list by playing their version of Funk #49 - what a touch of class!
The Crowd
The average age of the crowd was definitely 50+. An older kind of crabby crowd as we experienced! A few in our group started discussing the songs and music in a normal tone and were told to be quiet by people in front of us. Apparently, Eagles fans have pickles up their asses.
The Band
So now, on to my "official review.... I would love to rate each band member individually however there was SO MANY supporting members (at least four of them) in addition to The Eagles as well. I will keep it simple for The Eagles members they were all virtually flawless. Maybe Don Henley's voice crackled a bit near the end of the show but it was barely noticeable.
The Stage Show
Was pretty basic but really effective. Lots of keyboards (three total) and a nice little percussion set up in addition to the drums. I loved how The Eagles all lined up across the stage to sing their songs.
Audience Interaction & Engagement: "B"
Quality and Diversity of Music: "A"
Stage Presence of Band "A"
Energy from the Crowd: "C"
Notable exceptions from the playlist: New York Minute, The Last Resort
My overall rating for the show was an "A". The Eagles vocals are simply outstanding especially Don Henley. Henley did it all drums, percussion, singing, and guitar. The texture and richness of their music was huge largely due to the fact the whole band does vocals/backing vocals AND almost all of their backing band was doing backing vocals.
The Eagles catalogue of music is so extensive and the songs are so strong they really do take their audience temporarily from the perils of their life and to another place. You don't get that with Miley Cyrus or about 90% of the bands today!
Given the fact that most of these guys are over 60 and have played these songs many times they still played and sang them all like it was their first show. Simply amazing and if I was rich I would watch the second show that is on tonight but alas I am not rich in funds - only personality.
That's my review and I'm sticking with it.
I hope that one day you (the reader) will choose to join me on another tour or if you have an idea for your own tour I am available for hire as either a driver, event planner, or both. Bachelor parties, staff parties, concert outings, or any other events - just not planning weddings! (unless you only want to hire me to drive).
